RSGB Contest Results 144MHz AFS 2012
v4.145 by G4CLA

144 MHz AFS 2012

The number of entries for this event was virtually the same as in 2011.   However the interesting change was a large increase in the number of clubs entering - up from 27 to 37 - probably due to the introduction of the AFS Super League.  While a number of clubs managed to get enough entrants to form two teams, only Camb-Hams managed to activate a "C" team this year.

Sixteen hardy entrants went out portable and were rewarded for their efforts by combinations of freezing conditions, heavy rain and cold winds.  Reports on the conditions varied from reasonable to flat and poor.  Many entrants commented that the event does not have enough activity to fill eight hours while others thought the length was about right.  In 2013 the length of this event will be reduced to six hours.

Overall there were 432 stations recorded in the logs in 66 squares (including 26 UK squares).  The French contest helped to boost activity and there were 22 DL, 1 EA, 1 EI, 72 F, 5 ON and 15 PA stations logged.

Logging standards were generally quite good, but a number of stations will notice significant reductions in their claimed scores.  All aspects of the QSO are checked and errors were equally spread across all elements of the exchange.

In the club competition Trowbridge & DARC "A"  repeat their 2011 win and are awarded the G3MEH Trophy.  Camb-Hams "A" leap from 4th place in 2011 to second place this year.

In the individual sections congratulations go to:

  •  G4TSW (operated by G0IFC G3XBY G4RRA and G4FJK) for winning the Open Section for the second year running;
  •  David, M0GHZ/P for second place in the Open Section;
  •  G0KPW (operated by Pete, G4CLA) for repeating his 2011 win in the SF section;
  •  Keith G4ODA for second place in the SF section;
  •  Pete, 2E0NEY as the leading intermediate entrant in the SF section;
  •  Chris, M6XJP as the leading foundation entrant in the SF section
  •  David, G4RYV as the leading fixed station running 25 watts or less into a single antenna.

These stations will receive certificates.
